How do I break through a weight loss plateau?

I’m having some issues with a plateau I’ve hit. I can’t seam to break through it. My weight loss was going great but now I’m stuck. I’ve already lost about 20 lbs but the last 10 are just stubborn. Any tips?

answers:

This is a problem that many people come across when they’re trying to lose weight. Whenever you hit a weight loss plateau, this is a sign that your body has acclimated to your diet and/or exercise routine.

This is a problem that many people come across with dieting and weight loss. Whenever you start to plateau it’s a sign that your body has acclimated to your diet and exercise routine.

Essentially your body is burning calories more efficiently. In order to break through a weight loss plateau you need to change things up. An example would be try increasing your intensity levels when you workout. For your diet you could try going on a low carb diet for 2 weeks then go back to your regular diet.

Anyone who is trying to lose weight will eventually hit a weight loss plateau if they aren’t changing up the things they are doing.

How to break a weight loss plateau?

I’ve hit a plateau in my weight loss. I’m exercising at least 5 days a week and I’ve cut out unhealthy food. I was losing 2lbs a week for a while, but now I’ve stopped. How can I break this plateau and start losing again? I’m nowhere near my goal.

answers:

Check the diet and look into HIIT workouts. It is common to lose enough weight in the beginning then hit a rough spot, you are not alone

How to get off a weight loss plateau with insulin resistance?

I am on metformin for insulin resistance and have PCOS. I was losing weight steadily for 6 months, and have since hit a one month plateau of no loss (and no gain). I tried increasing vegetables and reducing sugar even more, as well as keeping up with exercise, but it seems to keep me the same and not lose.

Any ideas for coming off the plateau? The doctor recommended coming off metformin for 2 weeks and then restarting. Does that work? Any other ideas?

answers:

On Metformin as well. I decided to not increase my exercise but rather change the routine. My plateau lasted 5 months and I gained a few of the 80 I lost. So I bought sean T”s Hip Hop ABs . He has it set up so you are constantly changing things up and it is SOOO FUN. # to call for it is 1800 8185174 or go to Beachbody.com. Since I’ve started I have lost 15 lbs this month. Very exciting! Hope you try it.

Can I get over my weight loss plateau without increasing calorie intake and excersize?

I excersize 1 hour each day, and walk about 1:30 hours. I think that’s more than enough really. I’m not about to do more. And my calorie intake is low because I’m a raw food vegan and I really don’t want to stuff myself with tons more of veggies and fruit when I don’t have the taste for it.

I am reading that these are things I do have to do though, in order to lose more weight.

I don’t believe that.

Well how then do all those anorexic girls lose weight? I’m sure they don’t eat more to lose more weight.

I’m not comparing myself to a diseased woman, I’m just asking if I can continue with my normal excersize/diet plan and get over this weight loss plateau?

how to break a weight loss plateau without increasing the intensity and workout duration?

i’ve lost about 30 kg in 18mths by doing 2 hrs of cardio exercises at high intensity at least 5 times a week. However due to the long periods of workout, i’m starting to sustain injuries in my knees and can’t seem to continue with such intense routines. In the past year i seem to have hit a weight loss plateau and it would be great if anyone could give me ideas as to how i can break this plateau without increasing the intensity or duration of my workouts (mainly different forms of cardio ex ,eg. running, swimming and cycling) i watch my diet well, and have modified it many times but that didn’t help.

answers:

Are you doing any strength training? The cardio may get the motor running, but the strength training keeps it going 24/7.
Try that if you aren’t already doing it. If you are, cut out carbs and sugars from your diet for 2 weeks to jump start your metabolism. Slowly add them back in.
Good luck, HTH

How can I get over my weight loss plateau? ?

I have finally lost a total of 23lbs. I would love to lose 40lbs. more but the thing is, I am in a weight loss plateau. I am so bummed and depressed. Dont say workout more b/c I am. I walk 2 miles a day for 3-5 days a week out of 7. I dont know what else to do. I dont eat after 6pm. Can you please help? What did you do that is reasonable? thanks!

answers:

Wow good job on the weight loss! Have you altered you diet at all in your weight loss? If not once you start to plateau would be a good time. Also if you are walking the same route (or the same on treadmill) every day your body has become used to the routine and will stop losing weight. You need to change it up a bit. You could try riding a bike, or adding some intervals of jogging into your walk, or you could pick a route with more hills. It doesn’t take a big change but if you don’t switch things around a bit your body just becomes so used to the routine that it doesn’t have to work as hard which causes the plateau in weight loss. Good luck with the final few pounds. I know how you feel I’m at 35 lbs and have about 10 to go too!
